Experience the beauty of Lefkas Island
Also known as the “Caribbean of Greece” thanks to its exotic natural landscape and scenic beaches, the Ionian island Lefkada is the nearest one to the western side of the Greece mainland and it can even be reached by car, via a bridge It is one of the most popular Ionian destinations, full of amazing beaches with turquoise waters, monasteries, museums, and seafront or mountainous villages with a unique charm. As we start off in the clear morning skies from the Port of Lefkada city we head west, passing Agios Ioannis Beach, Tsoukalades and Pefkoulia, and visit one of the most beautiful beaches on the island – Kathisma. The water is milky blue and some consider it to be the most beautiful on the island, while the beach is covered with white pebbles. This is the perfect spot for a morning dip, and perhaps a little wander over o the beach on a SUP?
When you are ready, it’s anchor up and away, as we cruise south along the western coast to another beautiful stop, which also happens to be one of the most popular beaches on Lefkas – Egremni. Its beauty is not seen by many tourists anymore, as the 2015 earthquake left it inaccessible by foot. The two and a half kilometer long beach has nothing except the pebbles, azure waters and huge rocks, giving you the ultimate Caribbean feel. Have a splash around, explore the waters, and enjoy a refreshing drink on deck as youj soak up the picturesque surroundings.
Heading south again, we start to approach the southernmost tip of the island as Porto Katsiki, the most famous beach on Lefkas, as well as in all of Greece and even the whole Mediterranean, comes into view on our port side. The bright afternoon sun shines onto the white Cliffside, making it absolutely mesmerizing.
Cruising around the southwest curve of the stunning island, we reach the charming little fishing village of Sivota, where you can exchange your experience of Kathisma, Egremni and Porto Katsiki beaches over a tasty Mediterranean meal with other yacht owners who like to spend their time here. As the early evening arrives, and we head back to our berth, an option for a last stop could of course be Nidri, the most popular city among tourists where you can shop or enjoy your view of the neighboring island Scorpios. Lefkas means “white” in Greek, visit the island from North to South and see why it completely justifies its name.
